Hello,

I hope you enjoy my soccer coaching Website and find it useful; I would like to

give you some details about this Website and what I hope you as a coach,

parent or teacher will gain from viewing it.

I have had the privilege of working with some excellent coaches over the last

eight years and I have gained valuable experience from them and I don’t mind

admitting that I am still learning with every day that I coach, and believe me so

will you as you progress through your coaching career, i want to pass on

some of that valuable knowledge to you, as I know it can be a daunting task

when you first start out coaching young children and youth football. On this

website you will learn about all aspects of coaching youth football, not just

technical knowledge, but also about the physiological and social side of the

game which plays a massive part in a child’s football education and

development.

This guide to coaching will hopefully give you an insight into all the basic

knowledge you will require to get you started in coaching football; I hope you

enjoy reading the articals on this site and start putting some of the things you learn into

practice at your clubs.

Good luck

Dave Maslen

An Introduction to Coaching

Ask any child why they want to play football and you might be surprised by the

answers they give, I asked this question recently after a training session and

most responded with because they enjoyed the fun of playing the game, and

being with their friends, and that’s what football at a young age should be, fun,

enjoyable, and educational, they turn up week in week out not because they

want a big silver cup at the end of the season, but because they want to play

a game with their friends that gives them some freedom and enjoyment from

the outside world.

Coaching children’s football is never going to be the easiest job in the world,

but it is definitely one of the most rewarding. I am sure if you where to ask any

coach what do you enjoy about coaching young players, the majority would

say, it’s seeing young players develop over time, watching their confidence

grow as their ability and skill level grows, and as they progress their

enjoyment level of the game grows and grows.

There have been a lot of changes recently in the way that we coach young

players, with the FA now bringing in new age appropriate courses things can

only get better, You can now go from a level1 coaching certificate onto the

new FA youth award certificate which is broken down into three modules all

aimed at the age groups of 5-11 years which is excellent for youth team

coaching, and this can only benefit the future of youth football.

As you progress through this coaching resource you are going to learn a lot

about how to train children not only physically but mentally as well as most

coaching manuals only deal with the psychical side of the game i.e. training

drills and exercise, I want to delve first into the physiological side of the game

as this is a very important part of a child’s development, so lets get started by looking at ourselves as

coaches.

West Ham  4 – 0  Tigers

West Ham utd continued there great league form with a convincing win against Tigers girls at Flanders playing fields today.

The young Hammers started fast and caught the Tigers defence cold with a goal from Maddie O’Conner in the first two minuets of the game, West Ham continued to pile on the pressure and this led to another great team worked goal from Grace Hill, a third was added shortly after with another great strike from Maddie O’Conner and it wasn’t long after this that Grace hill finished the game off with another close range shot.

With the Hammers going into half time with a 4-0 led it was going to be a struggle for the Tigers to come back, the second half saw three changes to the Hammers side and a good defensive display gave the Tigers no way back into the game.

Another strong display and with this the girls are now 15 games unbeaten.

Ladies soccer

Summer leagues

If you were to ask most girls involved with ladies soccer teams around the UK what is needed to raise the profile of the Women’s game you would get a mixed response, maybe more publicity in the national press would help it was nice to see the Arsenal ladies team getting a double page spread in the Sun newspaper recently.

The recent broadcasting of the women’s FA cup final on national TV was a bonus as well, but all in all the ladies game needs more exposure to the general public so what’s the answer.

Summer leagues and why not think about it, all the time the premier league and championship etc is running through the winter months it dominates the headlines in newspapers and TV we simply cant get enough of it as a footballing nation, then what happens the season comes to a end and millions of football hungry fans get board watching cricket all summer.

So why not get the ladies season kicking off as the men’s season finishes, I am sure there would be plenty of football supporters out there  that would rather be watching a ladies football match  than watching what the transfer market is doing over the weekend on the TV.

Lampard and Terry Hammers news

Frank Lampard and John Terry have both agreed to take part in a testimonial game at Upton Park for Tony Carr the renowned youth academy coach that has brought through so many great players over the years such as Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Mark Noble, to name just a few of many.

Lampard of course was brought up in and around the Hammers set up with his father playing  for west ham for many years and his uncle Harry Redknapp of course playing and managing  west ham,  It’s a bit of a shock that they have both agreed to play after the grief they both received from the crowd on Saturday game with Chelsea, but it shows that both Frank and John Terry have great admiration for Tony Carr and all that he has done for not only them, but the many other world class players that have come through his academy system at West Ham.

Lets hope the hatchet can now be buried ounce and for all and both players get respected at the testimonial game as I am sure that both these players deep down still have a great respect for the club that got them both started in football.

Tevez

Manchester
united boss Sir Alex Ferguson has says he is concerned that striker Carlos Tevez is going to leave the club at the end of the current season.

The 24-year-old striker whose loan deal ends soon, has admitted he wants more first-team opportunities, and so he should in my opinion a great talent being left on the bench, I know one London team that would welcome him back with open arms

Grassroots Wembley

After all the moaning and groaning about the state of the Wembley pitch at the FA semi finals it’s been decided that a new pitch will be laid in time for the final.

is it me or what, I wish Sir Alex and co would come down the park and see what my boys have to put up with we wouldn’t need new grass, no we would need 20 ton of topsoil to level the pitch up first come on boys it cant be that bad.
